VIDYAVIHAR KUL

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF ALL INSTITUTES OF C. N. VIDYAVIHAR

VIDYAVIHAR KUL (VVK), a registered trust, was established in 1977 by Shri Zinabhai Desai who set forward excellent examples as to how alumni activities should be conducted. Over the years, this forum has provided a variety of opportunities to past students to engage with the school and its activities and thereby keep afresh as well as refresh their school memories. Alumni members actively involved in these activities feel that the association provides them with a platform to contribute to their alma-matter.

STRENGTH
Presently, there are about 3400 members in the alumni association. Interested alumni need to fill up a membership form and send it to the alumni office. Alumni are encouraged to contribute Rs. 1000/- as a one-time corpus fee while sending their filled-in membership forms. This is a voluntary contribution to the alumni association fund which is utilised for various activities. A database of former teachers is also being compiled (following the trust deed). It is planned to invite and involve past teachers in various activities of vidyavihar kul.

PLANNED ACTIVITIES EVERY YEAR

FOR RECENT GRADUATES:
Farewell & Fellowship Programme: As per the tradition, every year, C. N. Vidyalaya organises farewell programme for all students appearing in 12th standard examinations. Since last two years, this programme is being organised by VVK. The chief guest for this function is mostly invited from the VVK family. In this function, out-going students are encouraged to register themselves in the VVK; honorary membership is conferred to interested students for the first five years of passing out.

Felicitation Programme: This event is organised by the VVK to felicitate students with outstanding performance in 10th and 12th board examinations. About 16 students are selected; these include three students each from Std-10th and 12th - Science, Commerce & Arts streams and the first rank holder of kumar & kanya chhatralaya also from Standards 10th and 12th. In this function also, the students felicitated are given honorary membership to VVK along with an appreciation certificate.

FOR PRESENT STUDENTS:
Education Program: In order to encourage 100% results in the 10th board examinations, the alumni members work in partnership with teachers. A team of five teachers is formed to organise extra classes for about 35 ‘weak’ students to help them prepare for the board examinations. After the results, these teachers are felicitated by the alumni members. From the coming academic session, VVK plans to organise such classes from the start of the academic year.

Scholarship Programme: Under this programme, a total of 18 students from 5th to 10th standards are identified for receiving scholarship of Rs. 5000/- each in kind. These students are essentially economically under-privileged but brilliant in their performance. While selecting candidates for scholarships, VVK invites recommendation from each class teacher and the principal. This programme is supported from the alumni corpus; in the long-terms VVK hopes to augment this project by generating funds up to Rs.1 crore.

FOR ALUMNI MEMBERS:
Sports Day: On 15th February 2009, for the first time, a sports day for VVK members was organised with six different sports like cricket, badminton, table tennis, volleyball, chess & carom. About 100 VVK members joined in this celebration and enjoyed with their friends.

Annual Get-together: A grand get-together is organised by and for the alumni members every year usually in the month of December. The last get-together on 28th December 2008 was in the form of a musical evening which saw members from various batches perform together on stage in the Rang Bhavan. This programme was attended by more than 1600 members.

Group Get-together: Get-togethers for batch-mates are also encouraged and organised at periodic intervals. The responsibility of organizing these meetings lies with batch respective batch representatives.
